MTV chat transcript - 9/25/00

[editor's note revised: Back in the year 2000, MTV's chat system sucked as 98 Degrees did not appear in all of their chat rooms. You actually had to go from chat room to chat room, randomly trying to find which room 98 Degrees was in. Please ignore the typos as everything was typed by me as it was being said =)]

(starts off with Nick speaking)

Nick...what are your feelings this night before the big release?? Also want you to know how many older fans love you guys...look for us on the board...we're everywehere..love.ya..Penny

What was your inspiration for Una Noche?

We didn't right that song. So we can't really comment on the writing. But we love it for it's passion, it's really passionate. That's why we decided to record it.

I just want to say I love your music...I was wondering...is there any specific song you put on when you need to cheer up?

Um of ours? I like the way you want me too. That's pretty peppy upbeat son. That's my favorite song off the whole album..."my everything" is still a great song to.

Can you tell us about the collaboration you were supposed to do for una noche?

Tito puente had committed to do some percussion on the song. He's definitely a legend in jazz. and we were so excited to work with him. but he became ill and went into the hospital the day he was supposed to meet us, and has since passed away.

where did you get the idea to do a rap on dizzy?

That was actually, a kind of like, experiment. ON demo. And some poeple liked it enough to leave it in the song!

How many songs did you write on this album?

We wrote or co-wrote 11 of the 13 tracks we had a hand in writing.

What's the best thing about being in 98 degrees?

I think the opportunity to do what you love for a living is a rare opportunity.

What do you do to get inspired to write?

Good question! I think sometimes inspiration just comes to you...just comes out of nowhere really.

If you could choose the next single what would it be?

There's a few songs I feel would be really stron..My everything being one of them. The Way You Want Me To being another one.

What can we expect from the new tour?

The new tour is going to be state of the art production! We're really going to explore any creative production things we ca...and HIGH ENERGY!

Was it hard to do una noche in Spanish?

It was an experience. but the guy we worked with was very good at teching us, so it wasn't that hard.

Nick, do you listen to your own music all the time. If not what artists do you listen to?

I really don't listen to our music all that much because we have a chance to listen to it so much. Some of my favorites right now are D'Angelo, Pink, Creed.

Are you nervous about tomorrow's release?

It think I'm more excited than nervous. I think all we can do is make a CD we're proud of, and hope everyone else likes it. And hopefully that's what we've done!

hey drew! if you had a week off of this hectici schedule starting tomorrow, where would you go?

I'd just go home, go to my own bed, watch my own TV and just veg out...Just to yard work, or something just really ordinary...

Drew what is it like being the youngest in the group?

Honesetly it has never been an issue. We've always terated each other with a lot of respect.

Drew do u have a favorite song on the album?

My favortie song on Revelation, which is in stores tomorrow...would probably be "yesterday's letter", but I also like "The Way You Want Me To" and "The Way You Do"

What is the most fun part about touring?

I would probably have to say the actual performances. I love performing live, and having that interaction with our fans. And on tour, you have the kind of flexibility with the live shows.

Did you want to be a singer your whole life?

I've always enjoyed singing, but I'd never thought of it as a serious profession until I was presented it with this opportunity.

What would you see yourself doing at this point in your life if you weren't doing music?

I would probably be a search and rescue paramedic! I've always had a fondness for emergency medicine. And the outdoors.

Who comes up with the concepts for you videos?

Usually the video concepts are hatched by the director. And in our case, that has been Wayne Isham.

What song did you enjoy recording the most?

I would have to say, "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)" It was the first song that we recorded for our new record. And it allows us some creative freedom.

Do any of the songs relate to emotional factors in your life?

The song "The Way You Do" is a personal song for me. About how great love can be.

I love ur new song! What would you like your next single to be?

At this point, we're going to hold out, and make you suffer and wait!!! but you'll know as soon as we know!

I loved when you shaked your booty on Mtv!! I was wondering if dancing is your thing? Did you dance as "little drew"?

I wouldn't say dancing is my thing...but I have definitely grown to enjoy it.

Do you feel like the music has grown with you?

Definitely! Without a doubt! We have always put an emphasis on our music, and always expanding our sound.

Do u like being in the studio or on tour better?

Both have their pros and cons. But I would have to say I enjoy the live performance better.

How do you feel about you having lead vocals on this album?

It wasn't something that was a conscience effort...It just kind of happened...but I enjoy it.

Is there anything else you would like to mention before you have to go?
