episode 11
aired 1/21/03

synopsis: exactly 3 months later....

I think The Newlyweds will have a lot more difficulty in getting viewers this season, because Jessica's "ignorance" (or stupidity) just doesn't seem as innocent anymore. You have to wonder at this point whether she's putting on an act at least part of the time. But I think it's still fun to watch =)

This episode starts near Nick and Jessica's anniversary date in October. Unfortunately, Jessica's dad books a concert for Jess right on their first year anniversary. So it's off to the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City (Trump manages to be everywhere these days on TV, whether on his NBC show or bickering with the head of CBS). And the show makes a point of showing Trump branded water bottles in the room...twice!

Jessica sings "Sweetest Thing" as part of her concert. And the following morning, there's the innocent question of what's bratwurst. And the connection of German polka music with the movie "Titanic". Apparently there's an Oktoberfest thing going on downstairs. They manage to make it downstairs to gamble a little, and Jess notices it's not at all like Vegas...she notices all the old people. "it's all old people" is what she manages to say like 5 times in a minute.

They manage to blow $200 at craps. Jessica yawns throughout. They then go to the Oktoberfest, and it appears that they are the youngest people there...by about 2 generations. There's this parade that goes down a hallway (I would dare say that it looked lame as far as parades go). Otherwise, nothing too exciting goes on. Oh, and there's a guy that tries to get cash from an ATM, and Jessica seems to insinuate that is pretty dumb. I also would use the word sad to describe it.

Then it's off to New York City for a romantic night out. The greeter at the hotel misprononces "Lachey", calling it "Lackey". But other than that, it was rose petals on the bed, and a horse ride to an evening meal. When Nick tries to put a napkin on her, Jessica remarks "don't put it there...it'll mess up my cleavage". The meal starts with Cristal champagne. Jessica stuffs herself so that she apparently needs to rest for breathing. And there's a lot of "mmmms" to the meal. I guess it was just that good (filet mignon). A little bit of making out in the elevator on the way back before it's the cameras are locked out of the room.

Next week: Nick's 30th birthday
